Behind the Gavel: Bankruptcy Issues as Observed from the Bench

This program brings together two experienced bankruptcy judges to discuss current trends, legal strategies and courtroom considerations in Sub-Chapter V and small business bankruptcy cases. Despite the decrease in commercial chapter 11 filings overall and subchapter V small business filings as of July 2025, the unknown landscape of tariff policies and global trade tensions may result in unprecedented financial pressures on small business operations that may drive new patterns in bankruptcy filings and case management. Judges Stong and Beckerman will discuss these trends generally and specifically as to cases they are seeing in their respective courtrooms.

Speakers:

Hon. Lisa G. Beckerman, US Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York, New York, NY
Hon. Elizabeth S. Stong, US Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of New York, Brooklyn, NY
